Alejandra Martinez
With over 25 years of experience as a clinical psychologist, I am deeply committed to providing empathetic, comprehensive care for individuals, couples, and families facing a variety of challenges. My specialization in fertility issues and adoption therapy has shaped my career, allowing me to offer tailored support for families navigating complex emotional landscapes.
I have extensive experience in working with adoptive families in Chile, providing psychotherapeutic support to pre-adoptive applicants and families throughout their adoption journey. My approach blends clinical expertise with a deep understanding of the unique emotional needs of those affected by infertility, loss, and adoption.
I am currently working as a Clinical Psychologist in private practice, offering online therapy to individuals and families. My therapeutic approach integrates contextual, relational, and systemic perspectives. Over the years, I have had the privilege of supporting clients through various life transitions, including adoption, grief, and the challenges of infertility.
In addition to my private practice, I have been part of the
Chilean Institute of Family Therapy since 2000, where I focus on pre-adoptive counseling and therapeutic support for adoptive families. I also served as the Team Coordinator from 2016 to 2021, overseeing a multidisciplinary team of professionals who provide specialized services to families in need of adoption-related counseling.
Throughout my career, I have held leadership roles, including serving as the
Coordinator of Extension Activities and Academic Coordinator at the Chilean Institute of Family Therapy. In these positions, I coordinated national and international seminars, managed the institutional academic journal, and facilitated clinical supervision and postgraduate training in family and couples therapy. These experiences have enriched my work with diverse groups and fostered a deep commitment to continuing education and professional development.
I hold a Masters Degree in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico, where I graduated with honors. In addition to my academic training, I have specialized in Family and Couples Therapy, Transcultural Psychotherapy, and Fertility and Adoption counseling. I have also conducted research on adoption, focusing on infertility grief and the psychological impacts of adoption on families.
I have also contributed to numerous publications on adoption, family dynamics, and fertility issues, including research on adoptive families during the pandemic and the therapeutic challenges faced by adoptive parents. My work in this area continues to inform my clinical practice and allows me to stay at the forefront of developments in adoption-related therapy.
I believe in a compassionate, person-centered approach to therapy, where each client's unique story and needs are at the core of the therapeutic process. My extensive experience with adoption and fertility issues allows me to provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their emotions and find pathways to healing and growth. Whether working with individuals, couples, or families, I strive to help clients understand and navigate their personal challenges with empathy and insight.
For those seeking support in areas of adoption, fertility, or family dynamics, I am dedicated to providing professional guidance through every step of the journey.
I have lived in Chile, Puerto Rico, Spain and now, together with my family I just moved to the Netherlands and I am looking forward to making a lasting contribution to the field and supporting the local community with my experience and work.
